By Sakhshi Mahajan

Our resident guide to Art & The City, Sakhshi Mahajan, is giving Little Black Book Delhi an exclusive preview to her inaugural art show ‘Kunstkammer’ or Art Room. Being held on the 4th & 5th of May, 2012, the display is inspired by ‘Cabinets of Curiosity’, a method of collecting and displaying objects and artifacts that started in the Victorian Era. The objects in these ‘cabinets’ or ‘rooms’ were chaotically displayed because their categorical boundaries were yet to be defined…

Sakhshi, an Economics & Art History graduate from the University of Chicago, has worked at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in the Indian art department and assisted the museum curators with the permanent collections and show on Rabindranath Tagore’s visual artistry.  After her museum experience, she worked at the Gagosian Gallery, New York and helped organize and administrate shows of world-renowned artists like Robert Rauschenberg and Jenny Saville. After her experience in renowned galleries, she moved back to Delhi to pursue her interests and unravel the growing ‘art scene’ in India.

Showcasing the works of 16 artists including Sanju Jain, Srinibas Lenka, Dibyendu Bhadra, Apoorvshree Chaturvedi, Shiv Ahuja, Roohi Kapoor, Subodh Kerkar, Baba Dewaan and Ishaan Suri, there are a total of 90 works on display! The show will include paintings, sculptures, mixed media and photographs.
