People often think that the smooth, creaminess of ice cream can be used interchangeably with the grainy, icy texture of a frozen yoghurt. Although, both are dairy based; an ice cream normally requires cream while a frozen yoghurt requires yoghurt.
If you are watching your weight, opting for a healthy treat which has no added sugar and absolutely no colourful add ons other than fresh fruit {this means no chocolate chip, favours, chocolate and nougat or candied dried fruit} frozen yoghurt is a wise choice . If you are on a low carb diet, you might have to limit the amount of mango, berries and banana that goes into your soft serve. Watch out for hidden sugars in the killer granola and sauce toppings as they are extremely high GI and frequent consumption could give you a jelly belly.
Delhi, today has several chains of fro yo, leaving customers spoilt for choice. If you cant make it to the nearest outlet, grab a few cartons of Amul Fro Yo or Danone’s no added sugar yoghurts and parfait. For those who enjoy their post meal yoghurt break, here is the weigh down for the most popular ones in Delhi.
YOGURBERRY
This popular South Korean firm has a strong hold on healthy eaters and weight watchers in the capital. Their selection of all natural flavors {plain, chocolate, blueberry, wildberry and strawberry} are low fat, gluten free and contain no added sugars. To accompany these delightful flavors is a variety of different toppings ranging from nuts and fruit to cookies and wafers {I’d suggest you go with the nuts and low sugar fruits such as the berries sans the syrup}.
It’s my personal favourite as it is delicious and incredibly healthy at the same time {with only about 93 calories, 0 g sugar in a 100 g cup}.

COCOBERRY
India’s first fro yo chain entered the market with hopes of guaranteeing healthy dessert options to people at affordable prices. It does exactly that-available in over 8 cities today. With branches in easy to access locations, this joint offers healthy, low calorie dessert solutions to all and sundry. Made with fresh skim milk, probiotic cultures and low fat yoghurt, this treat is a winner with Delhizens. The berry blast is what I love having when I’m indulging myself. RED MANGO
This American frozen yoghurt chain is the newest entrant into Indian waters. Fro Yo lovers and healthy eaters can both rejoice, as the customised menu for india includes only probiotic, low fat and all natural ingredients free from any additives or added sugars. However, all this good stuff usually comes at a price. Available at a seemingly, innocuous rate of 99 paise/g, try weighing ingredients as you go along to avoid paying an exorbitant amount. Stay away from unhealthy toppings {think:biscotti, wafers, oreos} and go for exotic fruits instead. I love their strawberry with nut slivers and fresh fruit.
