Delhi is sweltering and there’s only one place I’d like to be- Goa. With its sea breeze and green, green monsoon lushness, Goa is like paradise this time of year. But alas, that boring old obstacle, also known as making a living, keeps getting in the way. But a couple of days ago, I found the next best thing to being in Goa- wearing Goa.
Turquoise and Gold is a store that sells lounge and resort wear. They’ve been around in Goa and Bangalore for a while, and now Delhi is getting the benefit of this exciting line of clothing that immediately transports you to a seaside resort, where you’re carousing with the hip and the hot, and drinking copious quantities of screwdrivers. Vibrant prints crafted and customized in Europe evoke glamorous tropical lifestyles…and are tailored into funky, free-flowing, yet sexy styles in featherweight silks and cottons. All the clothes are kind of dreamy and feminine, sort of Pucci-meets-Cavalli with a hint of Stella McCartney. Which designers are they inspired by? ‘We’ve been influenced by quite a few Brazilian designers such as Adriana Barra and Carina Duek, and of course international designers like Diane Von Furstenburg, Mathew Williamson and Melissa Odabash.’
I was amazed by a cotton fabric they’ve developed that feels just like satin {perfect for the Delhi summer!}. There are solid colours too- delicious tangerine and lime and, of course, white {beachwear=white, according to me}. There are full-length dresses, sarongs, jumpsuits, skirts and a variety of interestingly cut shifts and tops. I was extremely tempted by the slouchy pants, which looked uber comfy, and are styled very this season. And best of all, the stuff is all fairly reasonable {by Delhi designer wear standards; I’m not talking Sarojini Nagar, folks}. There’s even a ‘Mini’ collection of adorable dresses in chiffons and layered fabrics for little girls who like to dress up, and tiny swimsuits too.
For those of you who are compelled to splurge when you go to Emporio, there’s a Luxe line, with flowing kaftans, dresses, and sexy bikinis in hot shades. Yum yum!
