VIOLET DREAMS: Personal expressions of faith
An exhibition by Shivani Dass, curated by Tanvi Mishra

Shivani has always been intrigued by Sufism and its mystical ways, and wanted to provide a visual language to the quest for this path through “Violet Dreams.” Her photographs aren’t only the result of her journey undertaken for seven months this year {2012}, but also the product of years of research, reading and time spent at Nizamuddin Dargah in Delhi. From the photographer herself- “My aim is not to present you with “postcard” images of the Dargahs I visited but to capture suspensions. Each photograph concentrates on the pause between calm and madness, faith and doubt, suffering and ceremony….This exhibition is my impression of the vastness and the shortness of the distance between the physical and spiritual realms, of different portrayals of faith, and the journeys and pilgrimages of believers and non-believers in search of themselves and God…”

WHERE | Galerie Romain Rolland, Alliance Francaise, 72, Lodi Estate New Delhi.
WHEN | 11.00 a.m to 8.00 p.m from the 26th to 31st August 2012. A guided tour of the exhibition will also conducted by Shivani Dass on 30th August 2012 at 6 pm.
