{LBBD} Film Club | Screening of Todo Sobre Mi Madre
The film on the surface seems like a melodramatic tale about mothers and their relationships with their children, a theme we are very familiar with in India. But a highly intelligent script and wonderfully rounded characters lift this film to a level of brilliance. Varied influences from Tennessee Williams to All About Eve, and Almodovar’s signature filming style with bright colors and bizarre but very human characters make this a fun, yet layered film that you will go home and think about for a few days. It won the Academy Award for the Best Foreign Language Film and was a rage in Cannes, winning Almodovar the Best Director Award.

Hari & Sukhmani Live
We would go to Gurgaon for this!
Hari and Sukhmani are a young and ambitious duo who plan to take Punjabi folk music from the yester years into the future, from New Delhi to New York City. Sukhmani Malik, a trained Hindustani classical vocalist from the Rampur Gharana, has a voice dense with character, that doesn’t fail to strike you as powerful. Hari Singh, a producer and an audio engineer, has electronic skills tuned finely to appease the ear. The two combine eclecticism with a curiously contemporary take on traditional folk songs from the land of Punjab. Their sounds are a blend of folk music fused with ambient electronica.

THEATRE & MUSICALS |
The Yellow Brick Project’s ‘Dirty Laundry’
The Yellow Brick Project is back with its 4th musical dance extravaganza – DIRTY LAUNDRY!
Fast-moving, funny and innovative, Dirty Laundry tells the quirky story an atypical Indian family. Throw in the 40 member cast, some swing, broad way jazz & old school hip-hop, a dash of Bollywood, and a live band & choir and and what you have is an out and out entertainer.
When a philosophy professor allows himself to be seduced by one of his students, it sets into motion an inexplicable chain of events that leaves none untouched, culminating in an uproarious and dramatic climax that nobody sees coming. Both comical and poignant in parts, the play uses the explosive theme of infidelity to shine a spotlight on the relationships that lie at the heart of every family. Looks like a family that shocks together, stays together, or do they?
