Ahuja Vegetable Store | INA Market

This store is a favorite of many amateur and master chefs, and a one-stop-shop for anyone looking at purchasing exotic, good quality vegetables to cook a feast. On Sunday mornings, Ahuja Vegetable Store is packed with customers from all over the world asking for vegetables unheard of! Amidst all the frenzy, you’ll spot brothers and third-generation owners of Ahuja Vegetable, Harsh and Rinku Ahuja. The store was started by their great grandfather, and was one of the first shops set up in INA Market. Their 50 year old heritage has held them back in no way! From fresh green lettuce to bright red and yellow peppers, red cabbage, brussel sprouts, bamboo shoot, and veggies commonly used in Asian cuisines- galangal, morning glory and an array of mushrooms, they’re exceptionally well stocked and the produce is vibrant and clean.

Inspired by Kishi Arora’s desserts tip, we decided to test the range of exotic herbs available here and asked for fresh lavender. Though they didn’t have it, Mr. Harsh Ahuja said he’d be happy to order it on demand. And it’s probably for these services they’re supplying fruits and vegetables to quite a few of the five star chains like ITC, Leela, Taj Hotels etc. 

Fancy clientele aside, they have a loyal customer base because of the variety and high quality of the produce they have to offer. As one loyal customer tells us “They have everything you need under one roof and for the quality you get, you pay less than what you end up fishing out at Khan Market. Your local vendor may charge you a lower price, but then you have sift through every leaf, to be sure of what you’re paying for, which can be a big pain!”

Tantalizingly fresh salad mixes, organic veggies and herbs, edible flowers, the list goes on. Kanu Somany’s Organic Garden menu is a vegetarian’s delight, and her home delivery service is god sent for those who crave the crunch and texture of western salad mixes!

She puts together exotic mixes like the Mesculan Provencal mix, that contains snips of lettuce with speciality greens like blanched frisee hearts, wild arugula, baby spinach etc. or Mesclun Moulin Rouge (100g ) for Rs 250, that contains baby lettuce leaves in bronze to deep red of bijou, cerize, new red fire, lollo vino and pentared. You can choose from over 7 salad mixes, assorted veggies for cooking, and organic herbs and seasonings as well. Every time I have ordered from the service has been impeccable and the salad freshly plucked.

Tattva Art & Organic Cafe has become Hauz Khas Village’s new star restaurant and for all the right reasons. The food is ‘healthy’ and vegetarian, but don’t let that put you off because their menu is extensive and the food is delicious. In fact, as non-vegetarians we were pleased by their pesto pot, pasta with amaranth sauce and toasties with olives, leek and cheese. Cafe aside, a Tattva service that has our attention is their workday lunch delivery. Dilliwaalas can now have a gourmet and nutritiously organic lunch delivered to their doorsteps. We have two options to choose from- a Homestyle Indian selection or a Contemporary Homestyle World cuisine. While the food changes on a daily basis and is subject to availability of organic produce, your options for Indian food include a traditional serving of lobhia palak, beetroot sabzi, kheera salad and wholewheat rotis, while the World Tattva plate includes Bocconccini & Greens Salad, Pasta w/ Cauliflower & Brown Butter, Beetroot Gazpacho. It comes with a mid-morning and evening snack of an puffed amaranth with almonds, raisins and makhane, coriander hummous and bread chips amongst other options.

  • While their weekly lunch delivery starts at rupees 2271, the month-long delivery starts at rupees 9490- rates vary with your cuisine of choice and the size of the meal
