Meet Ishita Singh.
Ishita is a New Delhi based photographer.
‘I’m a freelance photographer, currently pursuing a course in Fashion Communication from NIFT, Delhi. Photography for me started when my Granddad gifted me a Canon 1000D 4 years ago and I haven’t looked back ever since. Photography has become an omnipresent way of expressing myself. I try and aim at exploring the emotions and fantasies that lie deep in ourselves and get them out in my pictures. The fact that I could recreate the dream worlds that only existed in my mind, and make them a reality is what excites me the most!’
We got in touch with Ishita to share some of her self-portraits and here’s what she had to say about them:
‘Doing self portraits is MY medium of expressing myself. It allows me to create the exact image that I want, without having to worry whether the model understands the story in mind. I always come up with a vague concept and image of what I want in my photo before I set out looking for props and location to go with it. It’s much easier for ME to put myself in my concepts as it gives a kind of satisfaction and peace of mind after the final image is completed.
The more I get to experiment, the more I learn – because here, I have no one to please but myself.’
And how exactly does she take these amazing portraits?
‘The tripod is my best friend during these self portrait sessions. If it’s a long shot, I set up the camera, set the focus and use a timer. If it’s a close up and I’m using my prime lens the focusing can be tricky, so I connect the camera to my laptop and do all the minute focusing from there.’
‘I was born and brought up and Delhi and have never lived in any another city, so to me Delhi’s a dreamland- so many weird and beautiful places, so much to explore! There is always something interesting happening in the city- be it in music, or art. Though I only wish it was a little safer for women!’

Brilliant work, especially if it’s reached this level in just 4 years.
Very beautiful and interesting work! I’m glad I got a peek.
I love this!
